Behringer 2-XM Four Voice Poly Action Using CV.OCD [Demo 01]

Today I'm employing a Sixty Four Pixels CV.OCD to distribute CV/gate amongst two Behringer 2-XM synths for proper Four Voice allocation. As of today the 2-XM firmware on its own does not support individual voice allocation this way. And THIS is very much what I signed up for: stereo panning each voice however I want, pulling out notes of a sequence/chord using filter and envelope controls per voice, and slight variations in the voicings giving rise to an analog sound that is very much alive. Even when the sequence is just arpeggiating a single note value, the variations suggest movement as you will hear.

All audio recorded direct to iPhone via Roland GO:MIXER Pro-X. No sound effects are applied, some normalization in post processing. Signals were sub-mixed on a Soundcraft EPM6 mixer, no added EQ. Sequencing by Arturia Keystep Pro.

My Quintessential OB-6 Synthesizer Sound Set Now Available on Gumroad

Today I introduce my Quintessential OB-6 Synthesizer Sound Set. This audio demo is a selection from my original Sequential/Oberheim OB6 patches. The bank download includes 100 patches can be purchased at Gumroad. The patches come from a variety of influences: Arena Rock, Pop, Trance, Darkwave, Freestyle, Dub, Classic Hits, New Wave, Electro. As well as some funky weird stuff the OB-6 has coaxed from my imagination. Hope you'll enjoy these awe-inspiring sonics coming from the OB-6 as much as I do. Update from the Studio Lab 8/27/2025

Hello there. Module Availability Re-stocks: Gyrinx-VCF, Influx Mixer, Pro ADSR.

A Sequential/Oberheim OB-6 has landed in the studio. Had to trade my Juno-60 for it, but it was absolutely the right fit for me and the other party as well. This synth is definitely made for me, can't remember ever getting on so well with any synth as the OB-6 holy moly! I have quickly shaken 60 thrilling patches out of my sleeve - and when I have a full set of 100 soon I will issue my Quintessential Synth Soundset on Gumroad. Expect it will be $20, I say without ego worth every red cent when you experience some demos of what's going on here. I am also working on other sound sets like Juno-106 bank 1, and JX-3P. Thank you so much for your continued orders and support.

Akai VX600 Synthesizer Demo [no talking]

This is a six voice analog Akai VX600 synthesizer. Two oscillators per voice, and it takes minimum 30 minutes to stabilize tuning enough to play. Even so, it also wants 3 or 4 autotune sessions. Basses, pads, leads, arpeggios. Please enjoy. While this demo features my original patches, alas - there's no way to backup patches to computer or share them w/ others in that way. It only accepts Roland style Memory Cards. Be sure to check out my patches for other synths available at Gumroad. I also make Eurorack modules with mojo, available in my Reverb Store.

Recorded direct via EPM6 mixer to GO-Mixer Pro-X interface to iPhone, no added effects. The synth output is very hot, so any clipping you hear was overloading the input at the mixer.

I'm Moving Synth Patch Downloads to Gumroad

I'm in the process of migrating my synthesizer patch downloads to Gumroad. As before, the sound sets that were originally offered for nothing is still available for no contribution. If you like and enjoy the patches a small contribution is definitely encouraged. The new sound sets however will be around a meager $5USD, buy me a cuppa for my efforts :D But feel free to contribute more if moved to do so!

Behringer MS-5 Synthesizer User Review [Demo 01]

Today I am giving a user review of the new Behringer MS-5. My personal thoughts and opinions. I bought this synth with my own money. So nobody has input into what I'm posting here today. The MS-5 is touted as a faithful reproduction of the Roland SH-5 all-analog circuitry. With a touch of some modern feature additions. While I have tried a friend's original SH-5, this is not a comparison to the original. Nor is this an exhaustive how-to, nor covering all features. Is the MS-5 right for you? What makes the MS-5 stand out from other synths? Is the MS-5 a good value for the money? Can I recommend the MS-5 to others?

G-Storm Electro Introduces SEMSVF Eurorack Tribute Adaptation Oberheim SEM Filter [Demo 1]

SEMSVF is my Eurorack Tribute adaptation to the Oberheim SEM State Variable Filter. All hand made in limited quantities. Today I am auditioning some sounds via a pair of my 101-VCOs feeding in. I use a Happy Nerding FX Aid for some delay at times, no other mastering or effects. Headphones or good monitors recommended but watch your levels, aggressive resonance and lovely saturation ahead. Recorded direct via my Influx mixer to Pittsburgh Modular Outs to Mackie mixer to Tascam DR-05.

Delta VCF [VS] Delta VCF Eurorack Filter [quick comparison]

Quick no frills comparison demo. The left Delta VCF has the LM13600 chip. The right one has the LM13700 chip. Is there a difference between them? Caution!: full resonance at the end of the clip. JU60-VCF Eurorack Filter Adaptation Roland Juno-6/60 Jupiter-8 Now Available

JU60-VCF is an analog 4-pole low pass filter adaptation of Roland Juno-6/60 using a vintage IR3109 chip with a BA662 OTA chip in the resonance feedback loop. This topology was also used on the Jupiter-8, with a switch for tapping the 2-pole mode. Resonance will self-oscillate and produces a nice sine wave alone. JU60-VCF won’t turn your system into a polyphonic synth, but it has a classic sound at a sweet price. Time to get out your favorite stereo chorus modules and pedals!

G-Storm Electro Patches for Roland Jupiter-6 [Demo #4]

Auditioning some original Roland Jupiter-6 patches available for download. I had the good fortune of getting another Jupe in the studio. The previous one that had Europa was sold. This one is an earlier model, and was purchased dead. After bringing it back to life and calibration... Soon I had quickly re-programmed all my favorite sounds.

This video is un-rehearsed, so lots of noodling. Not dwelling too long on any one sound, to save your time. So if you skip around, you might miss something. Just sayin' :D Chord stabs, sweeps, bass, apreggio, sound fx, leads. Patch F7 is my template (default, or blank) patch. Patch F8 is my scratch patch, for when I can't remember what location I wanted to over-write.

The Roland Jupiter-6 has only rudimentary midi capability: simple note on/off and patch change midi message only. So, these patches can only be dumped all at once using the cassette interface. BE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR OWN PATCHES BEFORE OVER-WRITING THEM!

Download the patches as an mp3 audio file on my DOWNLOAD PAGE. I have used the JP-6 VERIFY function and confirm the audio file is good.

No additional effects or processing was used, aside from some normalization. Video was made in great haste - so it's un-edited, some audio levels are clipping. And sometimes scratchy volume pot.

XaVCF Eurorack OB-Xa Filter Adaptation Now Available

The XaVCF is a faithful adaptation of the OB-Xa filter in Eurorack with added features. As with the original, the XaVCF has two filter circuits to choose from! The heart of both designs having each its own Alfa reissue AS3320 chip. The XaVCF has the original Modes: a 4-Pole standard Lowpass circuit, and a 2-Pole Lowpass derived from a State-Variable circuit. Additionally there are 1-Pole Bandpass and Lowpass modes not available on the original!

Caution! Aggressive resonant peaks ahead, watch your levels.

I've been getting requests for demos of my upcoming XaVCF module.
It will be a eurorack adaptation of the OB-Xa filter.

You know this sound from Rush Tom Sawyer and Van Halen's album 1984.
While we're all eagerly awaiting the module prototype I thought
I would share a brief sampling from a mini-lab test circuit.
A more thorough overview of the module will happen when it gets built.
So be on the lookout for that one in the near future.

Sequencing a Univox Minikorg 700S [Demo #3] Using KVP + Beatstep Pro

Third video on the Univox Minikorg.
This Minikorg has been modified to take an external pitch CV + gate signal.
It expects pitch in hz/v and lo-active gates.
While the Beatstep Pro can do it - it's a global setting.
Using my KVP module to convert the signals, it means I don't need to mess w/ the BSP globals whenever I hook up a Korg product.

Oberheim Matrix-12 Synthesizer Sounds Demo #10

Today it's snowing a bit early this year. Nothing better than being hunkered down with a lovely Matrix-12 synthesizer. Each of the patches are auditioned dry first, then I maybe activate either/or Timefactor and Big Sky - some patches don't need anything :)

Patches range from the super-dark horrorshow opener, thick airy pads, hyper-surreal soundscapes, the occasional bass, and the occasional Hans Zimmer plucky thing.

Recorded direct to Tascam DR-05, audio was normalized.
No other effects or processing.
