Roland Juno-106 VS Juno-106 Gravitational Slingshot Synthesizer Comparison

On the bottom tier is the wonderful Roland Juno-106 in all its original glory. No mods, no apologies. Going against the upper tier Juno, not only are the Gravitational Slingshot chips installed but also having the Analogue Renaissance waveform chips as well. I'm auditioning the same patches as loaded on both. Are you ready for a showdown? Which one comes out on top?

These patches are available for download at GUMROAD Audio recorded direct to iPhone via Roland GO:Mixer Pro-X via Soundcraft EPM6 Mixer. Aside from some normalization, no additional effects or processing were used.

Roland Juno-106 Synthesizer - That Juno Sound (no talking)

Today I'm auditioning some of my original patches the Roland Juno-106. I just love the 106 for those plucky arps, sweepy portamento pads, classic chorus circuit, weird resonance chops, and not forgetting those basses. The range of sounds inside the simple architecture is littered with sweet spots. I've lovingly crafted a bank of patches to harness these attributes, now these patches are available at Gumroad. Audio recorded direct to iPhone via Roland GO:Mixer Pro-X via Soundcraft EPM6 Mixer. No additional effects or processing were used.

Behringer 2-XM Four Voice Poly Action Using CV.OCD [Demo 01]

Today I'm employing a Sixty Four Pixels CV.OCD to distribute CV/gate amongst two Behringer 2-XM synths for proper Four Voice allocation. As of today the 2-XM firmware on its own does not support individual voice allocation this way. And THIS is very much what I signed up for: stereo panning each voice however I want, pulling out notes of a sequence/chord using filter and envelope controls per voice, and slight variations in the voicings giving rise to an analog sound that is very much alive. Even when the sequence is just arpeggiating a single note value, the variations suggest movement as you will hear.

All audio recorded direct to iPhone via Roland GO:MIXER Pro-X. No sound effects are applied, some normalization in post processing. Signals were sub-mixed on a Soundcraft EPM6 mixer, no added EQ. Sequencing by Arturia Keystep Pro.

So I Tried the Akai MPC 3.4 OS Update

The Akai MPC 3.4 software operating system. A simplification of the MPC workflow with a few new features. Why did I upgrade? Am I digging it? What still needs improvement? Am I going back to version 2? Just my honest opinions and experiences with my MPC One+.

G-Storm Electro - A Demo, Nothing Special on Eurorack Modular

I performed this little demo patch at the DFW Synth Headz Synth Meet over a week ago joined by MOTS.DFW at The Creatives Factory. We didn't get direct audio afaik, so I'm redoing a little session of it here now just for you. Recorded direct with no addititional mastering. Patch details are on the video page description.

G-Storm Electro performs Ghost Track at The Creatives Factory in Dallas, TX

First time playing live! It was a lot. The first track went mostly well. Here it is w/ direct audio dubbed over from a rehearsal session for better audio. Thanks to Seth for footage, never occurred to me to film this. @creativesfactory

G-Storm Electro releases album Superior Mirage

These works were lovingly curated around mostly candid, found cassette recordings of total strangers. To find these sounds I scoured secondhand tape recordings in thrift stores using a walkman. Then turned to an arsenal of vintage and modern synths, including my own hand-crafted eurorack modules you know and love. The result is expansive, melodic, and dreamy lo-fi. Downtempo indie electro: pure ear-candy bliss for your listening pleasure. Textural layers, loose and free. Stream-of-consciousness, freestyle improvisation with ambient liquid flow. Tape hiss wow and flutter, down-sampling, clicks + pops, and little happy accidents. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

G-Storm Electro presents new album Superior Mirage coming May 23

Ten tracks of downtempo lo-fi ear-candy bliss. The first track is the mastered version of ClearSky which I just uploaded now on soundcloud. Also planning a album premiere event and chat on my YouTube channel the evening prior to official Bandcamp release. Hopefully you can sense my excitement about this one, it's been in the making since 2019. The results have been very much worth the effort and well exceeded my expectations going in. Hope you like it as much as I do.

E-MU ESI-32 for Pure Lofi Sampler Bliss [Demo]

Today I'm exploiting the ESI-32 rack sampler for lofi/crunchy/funky sound in multi-timbral mode. Drums were sampled at mono 22K then downsampled to 12K bandwidth, everything else down to 8K. All you're hearing is the ESI-32 sampler including built-in chorus, and internal LFO applied to autopan/vibrato. The audio was recorded direct to Tascam DR-05, no additional effects or mastering.

ESI-32: bit of an underdog, in that early 90s era when samplers started to overcome their limitations of memory, bandwidth, storage media, and processing capabilities. At a fraction of the current selling price for other vintage samplers of the late 80s that preceded it.

Today I am giving a user review of the new Behringer RD-9 Analog Drum Machine. The RD-9 is an affordable re-issue of the Roland TR-909 all-analog circuitry. With some updated functionality. This is not another typical audio comparison video, nor tutorial. How does it sound? Whats the design, construction quality and workflow like? Do I like the features? How does it compare to other analog drum machines currently available? I'll break it all down for you right here, right now.

Three Machines = MS-20 + Juno-1 + Eurorack Synthesizers

Feelin' a good 100-bpm chill vibe today. Three Machines are: Korg MS-20, Roland Alpha Juno-1, and the Eurorack system. Future Retro Transient+ is swinging a nice CR-78 groove thanks to mapping some CVs from the Beatstep Pro, running through the Delta VCF to take the edge off the highs. The CEM3340 VCO doing the arpeggio thing using quantization from Ornament & Crime, running through the Tonus VCF. Euclidian triggers from Temps Utile. Bass from the Synthesizer Box. Playing a delightfully mindless riff on the MS-20. Some Timefactor Delay, some Big Sky Reverb. Recorded in one shot, some post-work done in Cubase.

Happy Holidays from the studio

Quick update. Just added a couple more units of my Tonus VCF euro module adaptation of the ARP 2600 filter (4012 module) to my Reverb Store. They are now having the waterjet cut panels.

My Delta VCF module is sold out currently, I am taking this opportunity to re-visit the panel layout. I would like the jacks to be all at the bottom of the module like on the Tonus VCF. Using surface mount would make the builds go quicker as well. Hoping the Delta VCF will be available again before the year is out, we'll see. There will be a more official announcement and panel render when time comes.

Roland TR-606 Drum Machine + Alpha Juno-1 Synthesizer

Happy 606 Day #606day! In this video I synchronize the Roland TR-606 drum machine to an Arturia Beatstep Pro which controls an Alpha Juno-1. This simple setup is all you really need for electro music. Juno-1 plays a basic bass pattern. On-the-fly I make a few changes to pattern, drum mix, bass transposition, filter, envelope, and throw in some chords played by hand. A Timefactor delay module adds some groove. Recorded direct to Tascam DR-05.
